Where Are They Now: Stephanie Nelson, Ignite Charlotte 2

We can’t stress how great word-of-mouth marketing has been to Ignite Charlotte’s success. Well, we can and we will – uhm, tell your friends to submit a talk, tell your family to attend the event. (Big smile).

Past Ignite Charlotte 1 speaker Dwayne Waite did just that; he convinced Stephanie Nelson to submit her talk for Ignite Charlotte 2. Before considering Ignite Charlotte, Stephanie was working at a pay-per-click advertising. Yawn.

Before too long, she landed a job as a social media marketer. Yippee. Once she did her talk at Ignite Charlotte on Personal Branding – Online versus OfflineBAM – she was building her own personal brand in the Charlotte area! Woot-Woot.

Since her talk, she left her social media marketing job (due to company cut-backs). Boo! But Nelson managed to leverage her situation and launch her own social media marketing company. Yeah!

“I have been out on my own for 7 months now and seeing success,” she said. Hooray!

Where Are They Now: David Wells, Ignite Charlotte 1

Raise your hand if you think talking about social media marketing never gets old! Well, David Wells certainly doesn’t think so. “I love talking about social media marketing!” he exclaims. Wells spoke at Ignite Charlotte 1 on the topic: Social Media for Social Good where he talked about social media’s impact on the face of philanthropy.

In other words, your Facebook addiction feels better when you’re doing it for a good cause.

Since Ignite Charlotte 1, Wells has been busy. First moving to Boston, then landing a job at HubSpot as a marketing consultant for 2 years. But that’s not all. Last April, he re-branded his company ‘Socialize Your Cause’ to Inbound Now. “I now run my own WordPress development and inbound marketing shop,” he said.

Good for you, David! Good. For. You.

When asked how his Ignite Charlotte experience changed his life forever, he said “[It] helped me get a ton of exposure in the Charlotte community and helped get the word out there about Socialize Your Cause.”

Well, that’s what we’re here for!

“Every speaking opportunity is a chance to meet new people and to improve your speaking abilities,” he says. “Ignite’s funky speaking format is truly a challenge and I recommend everyone give it a try.”

We couldn’t agree more!
