1. There is actual science behind why being positive/optimistic is beneficial
2. By changing the way you perceive an event or situation, you can change both your reaction and action to it.
3. Your can literally change your life by changing both what your perceive and how you perceive it. If you don’t like your reality, start by changing your perception.
Trace the face of a clock on a ceiling. Now look down, your finger is going counterclockwise. What changed? Nothing! Your perspective! SO IF YOU DON’T LIKE YOUR REALITY, CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE!
Tell your brain what to see.
optimism influences your outcome. Tell uras what to focus on!
99% of information is unimportant. The brain detects, deletes and distorts.
Optimists realize sh*t happens to everyone. Pessimists see sh*t as the end.
Optimism and pessimism determines your outcome.
The way that you perceive an event determines your reaction. Your reaction determines your reality. Your perspective is your reality.
Haley is a POSITIVE person. She’s here to start a REVOLUTION.
THIS IS IT!
Are you ready?! Get on your feet. Put your hands together for HALEY B. GOUGE!
Let’s treat this holistically!
1. The way our society is approaching and representing obesity in both adults and children has not been effective and may have exacerbated the issue.
2. Children have become increasingly fearful of becoming overweight (one study demonstrated that children feared becoming fat more than they fear a parent dying) and this impacts them not only medically but psychologically.
3. There are simple and effective steps parents and adults can do to promote a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their children.
We don’t know the mortality weight with BMI, but we do know the mortality rate of people who have eating disorders.
As a nation, we spend 60.9 BILLION dollars on dieting, but diets don’t work. 95% of people who lose weight with diets, actually gain that weight back.
Consider all facts. Not just a number!
Can you if we looked solely at BMI, Will Smith and George Clooney would be considered obese!
Obesity may actually not be an epidemic. And the things we are doing are actually making the situation worse!
Now Heidi Limbrunner! Find Heidi at http://www.southeastpsych.com. Her talk: “Fat Or Fiction? The Truth About The Obesity Epidemic”
I <3 BEER!!! I hope you do too!
If you’re not going to brew your own beer, drink local beer.
Reduce greenhouse gases.
Reuse, brew your own beer!
The process: boiling wort and hops (this sanitizes the liquid and provides the hop aroma and the bitterness); then the fermentation; then it’s the waiting….
IT’S THE HARDEST PART!!
DYK – Many breweries have proprietary yeast, because it’s that important to the formula of beer!
Yeast is a vital ingredient because it makes BEER!
Grains are the sugary liquid for wort.
3 basic ingredients: grains, hops, water.
What if you could brew your own beer?!
34 different styles of beer
Give up a frothy round of applause for Mark Rickert http://www.skookum.com Skookum Digital Works Director of Engineering @markrickert
The potty jokes are happening…it must be getting late.
Reminder: if it’s not bio=digradable, don’t put it in your drain; this includes grease!
Sand. Water. Filter. Disinfection –> UV disinfection! Oxygenation.
Filter out the stuff you can see. Biology handles the things you can’t see.
An easy way to remember what NOT to put in the toilet:
Guys, no latex. Ladies, no platex.
WATER: I Used It. Now What?
Waste water is 95% water.
It’s NOT poopy gloop!

Human 2.0 We Have Evolved: Aspergers is Awesome!
@PhillyMac tells us how one of his 5 kids used dev language to pay for her phone bill! It can work!
Where are our STEM rock stars?!
Let’s focus on those things!
Building a community, accessing the online community. We don’t need new or powerful computers to teach programming language. We can use what we have.
How do we teach computer languages when teachers are already stretched to the max. It’s hard to get principals, politicians, and people on board with the idea of software development.
Every passing year technology becomes more ubiquitous. It will become more crucial for all fields to embrace some level of development skills and we need to start preparing our students at an early age to ensure they will be successful. In that same way that students learn reading, writing, math, and foreign languages at a young age, too they should be learning how computers work and how to engage with them.
Darn those kittens are cute!
Software languages can’t solve hunger or cure cancer, but it can certainly supplement devices that solve these problems.
Please welcome to the stage:
Eric LaForce with Skookum!!! You can find him online at http://www.skookum.com/blog on twitter at @elaforc

Did we mention that he likes kittens?
No bunnies here…just languages — both analog and digital.
John wants us to know:
*That Jazz is fun and approachable
*That anyone can be an improviser
*what the bass’ role is in jazz
Hopefully, you’ll be able to enjoy what you’re hearing next time you’re at a club; and you’ll know the difference between a bass and a cello.
He improvises his bass walk based on what he hears.
Scales are notes ordered in an octave.
If you go up, you also want to come down.
Walking bass is like a game of connect-the-dots. You have a root, a place you want to be and a path to get to where you want to be.
Up next , please welcome to the stage: John Shaughnessy II of JMS Bass! Find him on the faceyspace https://www.facebook.com/johngoogleplex

Philly Mac is summing up and dismissing us from the first half!
No matter how bad life is, it’s not as bad as a zombie apocalypse. We can focus on the positive and spot the Cherokee rose of resiliency!
The AAA battery to resiliency
Positivity, leads to pro-social behavior
1) There are things we CAN control and things we can’t
2) We benefit from a group, our friends our family, and even our dogs
3) Be attention to the present moment; be mindful when you’re going through something stressful.
*Think about 3 positives things anytime you’re faced with stress.
Resilience is in our genes. But since we all can’t choose our genes, so thank goodness for the other part, our environment. We can learn new ways to adapt and bounce back!
Resilience comes from the Latin word resilio, which means to bounce back.
Walking Dead fans should immediately recognize the symbolism of hope and resiliency behind the Cherokee Rose reference, which I would explain in my talk. I began watching The Walking Dead after being forced to for making a hyper-masculine guy watch 27 Dresses. It turned out I loved it and find it a great example of characters with a remarkable amount of resiliency. My research area currently is in resiliency and post-traumatic growth (as opposed to post-traumatic stress) and also integrate it into my classes and clinical work. Our society seems to have a resiliency deficit at times, and most people don’t realize that resiliency is a skill that can be learned. Therefore, my talk would be practically-minded in teaching some resiliency skills to use when you are chased by zombies (metaphorical or otherwise).

“Can I go over to walmart and buy one? No, but you CAN send it to an online site to print things for you! It’s really great for small time designers, like myself,” says Christopher.
Laser sensor nylon can be light, opening up opportunities for scale. PLUS it’s dyeable. CAN WE SAY CUSTOM!!!

Philly Mac says his 3 year old must be a budding start up opportunist, because he’s always asking why?!
Rethink your meetings! Have the right people there. Have everyone stand. Have a google micromeeting; 10 minutes. Stop being a slave to Outlook!
Focus on Productivity, not just being busy!
The piretto principal: 80% of all productivity comes from 20% of your actual work.
Eliminate. Automate. Outsource.
Learn. Test again.
Test and Measure:
Split up your idea.
See what sticks.
Always ask WHY!!!

As you leave today, be inspired and leave your snakes alone. And if a friend asks if a snake is poisonous…go ahead and correct them! No, No, they’re venomous!!
50% of all people bit by venomous snakes are picking up the snakes in the wild…and of those folks, 50% have a high Blood Alcohol Content. So stay sober and you won’t get bit!
Furthermore, most snakes are non-venomous.
You can touch a snake, you can eat a snake. Remember: they are venomous not poisonous!
UP NEXT: Nicki Dardinger. Officially, Director of Grants, and informally, Nature Ambassador Extraordinaire
She’s here to give us a little SNAKE 101!
THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A POISONOUS SNAKE!
Remember: If you got issues, I’ve got tissues!
You are unique, just like everybody else…
I trust people with big butts, they cannot LIE!
Are you a DEBBIE DOWNER or STEWART SMALLEY?
REMEMBER: An upper lasts a whole lot longer than a downer!
We have control over the positive and negative self-talk.

Let’s raise the bar. Encourage yoga instructors to learn sandskrit and then we will all be shinier happier people.
Better yet, learn how to read everyone’s bad tattoos!
Learning a dead language is fascinating and fun!
Chanting is like riding a transcendental train of the universe….
The sandskrit sound is designed to harness the power of the universe.
Sounds affect us! The quality, not the quantity!
The YOGA ALLIANCE is bringing a standard to yoga. Bringing in sandskrit to the professionalism of the industry.
How you ask? Through YOGA!!!
It’s hard to believe sandskrit, a dead language, is still ALIVE and well!
Please welcome Dr. Marcy Braverman Goldstein – visiting professor http://www.sanskritrevolution.com for her talk: “Better Living Through A Dead Language”
The three things the doctor wants the audience to learn and take away from my talk are: (1) though still important for school, the role of human memory is changing in the world, (2) memory is not a single thing- it is multiple components and can work differently depending on the type of information, and (3) memory can be improved with strategies and study tactics and technology can help as well.
Teachers need to know what is important to memorize and when it is important to teach learning.
Break words apart. Research word origins. Learn a word’s story.
The good doctor says, YES! It helps us to learn how to put information into other formats. Shifting the format makes you think about the info and understand it, and then file it away in LONG TERM MEMORY!
Should we even bother to ask kids to memorize things anymore when kids have google, siri, wiki?
We rely on our phones for everything!
Long term memory is getting less important than ever before.
Quick poll: How many of you memorized state facts, math tables?
POP QUIZ: What’s the capitol of NC?
